Who Are Allen & Heath?

Founded 40 years ago last year, Cornish firm Allen & Heath specialises in making audio mixing console and sound management systems for industrial applications. There are several Allen and Heath mixers which nightclub DJs like using.

In the early 1970s, the company built a custom quadraphonic mixing console for heavy metal group Pink Floyd, the MOD1, which can also be seen in the band's movie Live at Pompeii.

Allen & Heath is also known for being the first company to mount pots and switches on the input channel circuit board.

The range of Allen and Heath mixers is varied, from a compact 12 channel size up to well-equipped 48-channel Allen and Heath mixers for use in professional concerts. The larger VCA-based ML series of Allen and Heath mixers can be expanded using a sidecar system

Allen and Heath mixers also include the iLive digital mixer series, which has been well-received in the live sound industry.

Designed for the DJ market, the firm's Xone line of mixers is well-respected by DJs because of the high quality audio and build of these products. The Xone 92 is arguably Allen & Heath's best-known DJ mixer, and is embraced by renowned DJs such as Richie Hawtin. One of its main features is its top quality analogue VCF filters, which enable a DJ to bring in just the low frequency or high frequency portion of a new sound source.
